Reading and writing skills
Who is this course for?
Is reading and writing a problem for you? Would you like to face the challenge in a small group with other adults who are in the same boat? If you have answered YES, then get in touch with us TODAY! This course is free..
You can only enrol on this course once you have had an assessment from an experienced Learn Devon Tutor. If you are interested in enrolling on this course please call 01822 613701 to make an appointment. We regret this course is not suitable for ESOL learners
This course really does start from scratch where learners have not yet learnt how to read and write. The tutor will discuss your learning aims with you. You will take part in a range of exercises to help you grasp the basics of reading and writing. Time will be made for you to participate in whole group and small group activities as well as complete tasks individually. You will be encouraged to use ICT to support your learning and develop new skill.
Support and feedback
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor. At the end of every session there will be an opportunity to reflect on progress made and areas that still require some practice. Record of this will be kept in your Individual Learning Plan. Both classwork and homework will be used to assess how well you are progressing towards your goals.
Additional costs and requirements
A pen and some A4 lined paper.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Yes. Effective learning requires regular practice and, therefore, you might be asked to complete up to an hour’s homework every week.
About the tutor
Lisa Hasson began working for Learn Devon this year after relocating from Bedfordshire with her family. She has been teaching in Secondary and primary schools for over 20 years. As a fully qualified teacher with a BA Honours in English and a PGCE teaching qualification, she has specialised in GCSE English, literacy and improving English skills, and has held a position as Head of and Media Studies.
Lisa gained her love for her subject as a child. She was inspired by her teacher, who encouraged her enjoyment of literature and creative writing. It was then that she realised that teaching was to be her vocation. She is passionate about helping her learners to work hard and achieve their goals within an enjoyable learning environment.
