Stepping stone to GCSE English
Who is this course for?
This course is for learners who are hoping to join the GCSE classes starting in September. You will be working with a small friendly group with an experienced tutor. This course is designed to give you an overview of the new GCSE curriculum to familiarise you with the exact requirements to pass this exam, so that you can better decide whether GCSEs are the right qualification for you.
You will have an opportunity to look at some of the texts we use for discussing how language is used and example exam papers, along with the mark schemes.
We will also discuss the spoken language part of the course and you will have the chance to share ideas with your classmates.
The tutor will be able to answer your questions and any concerns you may have about the GCSE course.
Support and feedback
How will I learn? You will learn by a mixture of working with others and on your own. There will be whole class teaching too. You will do some research work, reading and some activities using a computer. How will my progress be monitored? You will be encouraged to be responsible for your own learning. An individual learning plan will be used to record your targets and achievements.
Additional costs and requirements

About the tutor
Jenni’s passion is equipping others with the necessary tools to ensure that they realise their dreams. She is a great advocate of education as the means to do this.
“I simply love teaching adults how to work against all those negative reports, whether from others or within and watching them surpass all expectations. Especially when they start to believe that they really do have the power to achieve something that was never before thought possible”.
Jenni Marshall, Tutor, Learn Devon
