Stepping stones to GCSE English
Who is this course for?
This course is for learners who are hoping to join the GCSE classes starting in September. You will be working with a small friendly group with an experienced tutor. This course is designed to give you an overview of the new GCSE curriculum to familiarise you with the exact requirements to pass this exam, so that you can better decide whether GCSEs are the right qualification for you.
You will have an opportunity to look at some of the texts we use for discussing how language is used and example exam papers, along with the mark schemes.
We will also discuss the spoken language part of the course and you will have the chance to share ideas with your classmates.
The tutor will be able to answer your questions and any concerns you may have about the GCSE course.

About the tutor
Lisa Hasson began working for Learn Devon this year after relocating from Bedfordshire with her family. She has been teaching in Secondary and primary schools for over 20 years. As a fully qualified teacher with a BA Honours in English and a PGCE teaching qualification, she has specialised in GCSE English, literacy and improving English skills, and has held a position as Head of and Media Studies.
Lisa gained her love for her subject as a child. She was inspired by her teacher, who encouraged her enjoyment of literature and creative writing. It was then that she realised that teaching was to be her vocation. She is passionate about helping her learners to work hard and achieve their goals within an enjoyable learning environment.
