Preparation for GCSE English
Who is this course for?
The course is aimed at those who are thinking about starting GCSE English in September.
We will look at the requirements of GCSE and consider the writing section, the reading section and also the speaking & listening element. We will look at using language specific vocabulary, compare texts and ways to develop writing in line with GCSE requirements.
Support and feedback
The tutor will provide personalised support as required. and give feedback, both written and verbal, during the session.
Additional costs and requirements
Bring a pen, paper & a folder.
You should have English Functional Skills, Level 2 or working towards a Level 2 English Functional Skills.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Effective learning requires practice and reinforcement so on occasions you may be provided with short homework tasks to help consolidate the work done in the weekly session. You will also be encouraged to make use of other resources such as internet websites, links and clips for self-study activities.
About the tutor
Rosemary has worked as an Area Tutor (Literacy) for Learn Devon in North Devon since 2011. Prior to this she taught English, ALDD and Family Learning classes on a sessional basis for six years. She also works as an arts and languages tutor with the Open University.
Rosemary has a Masters Degree in Education and a BA in Humanities from The Open University. She also has a Post Graduate Certificate of Education – Post compulsory Education, L4 Adult Literacy Specialism, and QTLS status.
Rosemary says that life is a continual journey of discovery – we are never too old to learn and move forward! She loves working with people to enable them to achieve and gain a sense of fulfilment and perhaps make a real difference to their lives. Learning should be fun!
