Who is this course for?

The course is not suitable for ESOL learners.
You work at your own pace and level, progressing onto the next stage, when ready. The course can cover several levels between entry 1 and level 2.
You will practise every day reading, writing and communication. This includes work on spelling, punctuation and grammar, writing for everyday use, (filling in forms, letters), reading texts (newspapers, letters) and communicating in everyday situations (telephone conversations).
You will learn with a small, friendly group of people who have the same needs and interests. You will work to your own personal learning plan.
Support and feedback
We have an Individual Learning Plan which is completed by you and the tutor so that you can see how you are improving towards your goals.
Additional costs and requirements
You should bring a notebook/notepaper and pen.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Yes effective learning requires regular practice at home. Your tutor will set short homework tasks to help you practise the work covered in the weekly session.
You will be encouraged to make use of other resources, such as internet websites, links and clips for self-study activities.
About the tutor
Lorraine has worked for Devon County for 22 years starting as a Playworker at Toddler groups and working her way to being a Tutor in Maths, English and Family Learning. Over the years Lorraine has been on funding committees, set up and run Pilot projects for setting up family workshops in deprived and rural areas, a project worker setting up courses in schools and other venues, part of 2 Government Literacy projects to promote helping Adults in Schools to learn to show how this then helps the children and Lorraine has also taken part in the excellence programmes for teaching both Mathematics and English. Lorraine also has qualifications in teaching for behavioural support and has been on Dyslexia awareness training. Lorraine has her C&G 7407 in Teaching and studied both Cert Ed, DTTLS and an English Specialism.
