Who is this course for?
Information days are being held where you can find out more, have the opportunity of taking an initial skills assessment and enrol on a course.

The Mansion, Totnes on Monday 21st August.
This course will enable you to improve your English under the tuition of a qualified English teacher who will assist you with learning at your own pace and enable you to set your own goals. Progression opportunities will be available.
Courses cover different levels and include the skills of communication, reading and writing used in everyday situations such as
• contributing to formal discussion of ideas and opinions
• interpreting meaning in sentences
• planning and adapting texts
• planning and drafting writing
Support and feedback
How will I learn?
You will learn through varied activities working with others and on your own, as appropriate. You will practise reading, writing and speaking skills using a range of resources with both paper and computer based tasks available. Classes are taught in small, supportive groups.
How will my progress be monitored?
You will be encouraged to be responsible for your own learning. An individual learning plan will be used to record your targets and achievements.
Additional costs and requirements
You can only enrol on this course once you have had an initial assessment with an experienced Learn Devon Tutor to determine which course is most suitable for your needs. The course requires regular attendance and extra work at home.
A4 file, writing materials and lined paper to be brought to the first and subsequent lessons.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Weekly homework will be used to practise, check understanding of topics covered and provide feedback on progress.
About the tutor
Kate Munrow has worked as an English tutor for Learn Devon over the past 10 years teaching ESOL, Literacy, Functional Skills and GCSE English.
Qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Exeter University, a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training from Plymouth University, an ADTLLS Subject Specialism (Literacy) qualification and an RSA/Cambridge certificate in TEFLA (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
Helping people to feel confident about using English in their everyday lives is important to Kate.
