Do you enjoy uncovering the History of your town? Do you like investigating buildings and objects that tell us about the past? Then this course is for you.

Course content

On this course we’ll be going out and about in Newton Abbot. Finding out more about its old buildings, how they looked then and what they look like now. We have the fantastic opportunity to work with the new museum, Newton’s Place. We will visit the museum online, through Zoom. Museum staff will work with us to bring Newton Abbot, its places and objects to life.


Support and feedback

During the course you will be carefully guided to improve your skills with regular support and feedback from your tutor and learning support assistant.

Additional costs and requirements

All materials will be supplied but you might like to bring your own folder and pen.

It is advisable to bring a coat as we might go for a walk into town.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

You might be asked to do small homework tasks. However, these will always be fun and around what you have done in the class.

About the tutor

My name is Des Gauntlett, I have been teaching and supporting courses in Newton Abbot for 14 years. I enjoy visits to the museum, I learn something new every time I visit. I really like looking at old pictures of the town and seeing what it looks like now.
