Keeping healthy matters
Who is this course for?
If you are an adult with learning difficulties and disabilities, or you are being supported on a day-to-day basis and hope to be more independent in your daily life, then this course is for you.
This course is for anyone who would like to keep healthy. We will be looking at ways to keep our minds and bodies healthy.
You will be working with your tutor in a virtual learning environment using an online video platform called Zoom. You will be accompanied in your virtual class with other learners. Your tutor will give practical demonstrations, have discussions, set tasks, give feedback and will support you throughout the course.
We will be working together to produce a presentation about keeping healthy that we can share with others.
We will look at food, drink, exercise, sleep, relaxing and socialising.
Support and feedback
You will be supported throughout the course, your tutor will work with you to check your progress and agree what you need to do to achieve the results that you want.
Additional costs and requirements
This course is delivered online and provided free of charge. You will, however, need a computer or a tablet with a stable internet connection, as well as a built in or external microphone and camera to attend the course.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
You don’t have to do any work out of the session but you might enjoy doing some research and sharing your findings.
About the tutor
Your tutor will be Barbara Kernick. Barbara started working for Learn Devon in 2000 and teaches various courses for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities including art and drama. She also teaches Improve your English, maths, IT and arts and crafts courses from time to time. Before working for Learn Devon, Barbara volunteered in literacy groups and was part of the family racehorse training business. Outside of teaching, Barbara has six grandchildren growing up fast who keep her busy, but she is keen on cooking and travelling when she has the chance. Barbara enjoys teaching as she likes helping people to realise more of their potential and giving them new opportunities and experiences. Barbara believes that learning is always better when the learner is relaxed, supported and enjoying themselves and she always works to make that happen.
