Making Connections with Artists Matters

Alexander Centre, Tavistock

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. It is for anyone who is being supported on a day-to-day basis, but who is hoping to be more independent in their daily life. You will be looking to take part in fun activities and learn new skills in art. Complete beginners are welcome.

Course content

You will be learning in a safe, friendly and relaxed environment, amongst friends. This course we will create art and craft inspired by famous artists. We will cover a range of art activities including dabbing, wet on dry, layering blending, hatching and stippling. You will learn colour mixing and use pastels, charcoal, acrylic and watercolour paints. You will engage in a discussion about the artist’s life, work and time period. Learn words that describe different types of art and methods used.

You will also gain confidence to express yourself through art.

You can also make new friends and find out about how to get involved in other opportunities and courses.

Support and feedback

Your tutor will be supporting you throughout the course. They will work with you to check on how you are doing and agree what you need to do to achieve the results that you want.

Additional costs and requirements

There are no entry requirements and you do not need to bring anything as all materials will be supplied.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

Not unless you would like to. If that is the case, the tutor will be happy to supply you with something to do at home.

About the tutor

Caroline Ross currently works as a tutor for Learn Devon. Prior to this she worked for Integer training as a tutor and also as nationwide trainer and major accounts supervisor for Manpower plc.

Caroline has a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and a City & Guilds Level 4 Certificate of Adult Literacy Subject Specialist qualification. Caroline’s area of interest is teaching adults with learning difficulties

Caroline has been heavily involved in her children’s school, being the Secretary then Chairperson for the PTA for 8 years. She helps out at the local Youth Club and is hoping to be involved in more youth projects in the future.

“I love teaching and giving people the opportunity to do things for themselves instead of someone doing it for them. As a child I experienced things being snatched from my hands because I looked awkward (just being left-handed!) and made a promise that I would never do that to anyone else”.
