Wildlife matters

Who is this course for?

In this Wildlife Matters course, you will learn about the different wildlife around North Devon, from coast to countryside, birds and animals, including some trips to local places to see where they live. Taught in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

This course is suitable for anyone who is being supported on a day-to-day basis, but who is hoping to be more independent in their daily life.

Course content

On this course you will learn about some of the wonderful wildlife we have in North Devon, including Otters, Lapwings Bats and Moths. You tutor will take you on some trips to local wildlife centres, to find out more. On the course you will be able to make a book that could include pictures, drawings and writing about the local wildlife.

Support and feedback

Your tutor will be there for assistance and advice.

Additional costs and requirements

You do not need to bring anything with you.

You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2017 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

No, there is no need to do anything in your own time.

About the tutor

Nicky Montagu is an Art, Craft & design tutor for Learn Devon and teaches study skills at Petroc college. She has taught on many different courses in London as an Art & Design Lecturer, including Richmond upon Thames College and London College of Fashion. She graduated from the University of East London with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art and gained a PGCE teacher training at the University of Greenwich.

She has worked as an Interior Designer on both domestic and commercial projects, and as a freelance lighting designer for Home-deq

Nicky has lived in Devon for the past four years where she has recently set up a printmaking studio. Her current work is about living on the Taw estuary in North Devon and is interested in texture and pattern in the landscape inspired by the ambient light and changing tides and seasons. She is interested in many different areas of art, craft and design including textiles, printing, sewing,
