Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. It is for anyone who is being supported on a day-to-day basis, but who is hoping to be more independent in their daily life. You will be looking to take part in fun activities and learn new skills in acting and performance Complete beginners are welcome.
You will be learning in a safe, friendly and relaxed environment, amongst friends. You will take part in lots of different drama activities including acting, learning lines, projecting your voice and production. You will always be working towards putting on a fun performance for family and friends. You can also make new friends and find out about how to get involved in other opportunities and courses.
Support and feedback
Your tutor will be supporting you throughout the course. They will work with you to check on how you are doing and agree what you need to do to achieve the results that you want.
Additional costs and requirements
There are no entry requirements and you do not need to bring anything as all materials will be supplied. However, you might want to work on your costume or find props for the performance.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Not unless you would like to. If you would then you might choose to learn your words for your performance.
About the tutor
Barbara Kernick is a tutor working with independent living groups for Learn Devon teaching Drama, Shopping and Independence. Prior to this she worked as a literacy and numeracy tutor and a Skills for Life Coordinator. She has been teaching adults for over 20 years and is a senior practitioner and Internal Verifier.
Before teaching she ran her own business and has been involved in various voluntary roles but now her six grandchildren take up most of her spare time.
