About the tutor
Lindsey Tucker, the tutor, is experienced and well-qualified in this field and enjoys helping others develop their own abilities in English and maths.
Working with learners is Lindsey’s life, her main job being with students at Bicton College in East Budleigh. She treasures her teaching of adults for Learn Devon at The Kennaway Centre, Exmouth, which dates back to the mid-eighties when she was asked to teach an evening class in sociology. Since then she has taught various courses ranging from art and craft subjects such as mosaics and pottery, through the complementary therapies such as reflexology, to her current focus on creative writing, English, Maths, ICT and learners with learning difficulties and disabilities. This wide range of teaching reflects her eclectic interests.
Lindsey has an Honours Degree in English and Psychology from her initial teacher training in the late seventies, but since then has obtained her Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. She has also gained a Diploma specialising in Literacy, and her Cert. TESOL and TEFL qualifications…she has also trained as a Complementary Therapist and has a Higher Diploma as a counsellor/psychotherapist, and has added to her repertoire of artistic skills by gaining various certificates, most recently (2012 – 2014) in fibre craft and felt-making.
Art, English and Well Being have always been important to Lindsey, as has music. If she has a good book to read, or is busy doing something creative – preferably whilst listening to the music she enjoys – then she is content. She enjoys learning and tends to always be studying something: it is this love of learning that she hopes to convey to learners.
“Learning truly is a lifelong process and it is never too late to develop and/or expand an interest. Age and ‘ability’ need not prevent learning; only a closed mind can do that.”
