Who is this course for?

If you want to improve your skills with numbers and words then this course is for you. You will able to build a portfolio of work towards a qualification if you wish.

Course content

You will learn skills that will help in your everyday life – shopping, paying the bills, writing, reading and using information technology. You will research, plan and take part in an outing using these skills.

Support and feedback

During the course your tutor will explain what you need to do, feedback on your progress and help you with anything that you find difficult.

Additional costs and requirements

You do not need to bring anything with you and there are no entry requirements.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

You will be able to practice the skills you have learned in your everyday life.

About the tutor

Barbara Kernick is a tutor working with independent living groups for Learn Devon teaching Drama, Shopping and Independence. Prior to this she worked as a literacy and numeracy tutor and a Skills for Life Coordinator. She has been teaching adults for over 20 years and is a senior practitioner and Internal Verifier.

Before teaching she ran her own business and has been involved in various voluntary roles but now her six grandchildren take up most of her spare time.
