Who is this course for?

This course may suit you if you liked Grayson Perry’s Art Club on TV during lockdown, or if you just want the chance to make art regularly. This course is suitable for anyone.

Course content

Each week a different theme will be the starting point for your own artwork, which you can explore in your own way or using ideas and techniques suggested and demonstrated by your tutor.

You will be looking at and encouraged to explore a variety of art activities and techniques including drawing, painting, varied print processes, photography and digital and mixed-media processes.

There will be the opportunity to explore your own ideas and follow set practical tasks.

Support and feedback

Your tutor will support you throughout the course through online face to face discussions and feedback on your progress if wanted. You will work with your tutor on your personal goals within the structure of the course.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

You will need a laptop / PC / phone / tablet with a camera and microphone/headphones and a good internet connection.

You will need to provide your own materials and equipment – see list below.

“How will I learn?

You will be working with your tutor in a virtual learning environment using an online video platform called Zoom.  You will be in your virtual class with other learners. Your tutor will give practical demonstrations, have discussions, set tasks, give feedback and will support you throughout the course with online face to face discussions and feedback on your progress where appropriate. You will work with your tutor on your personal goals within the structure of the course.

Resources and additional information

A range of art and craft supplies – all of these are optional, depending on what you have at home or want to use/provide for yourself; including some of these but not limited to….

Paper, any kind/size.

Board or canvas to paint onto.

Pens, pencils, colouring materials.

Paints and paintbrushes

Magazines, coloured/patterned and textured papers and materials.

Fabrics, threads, wool etc

Found objects.

A digital art app/programme like Paint, Procreate or Photoshop (if this is something you may want to play with).

A camera.

Clay or other modelling material like salt dough or plasticine.

What can I do next?

You may like to enrol on another art or craft course with Learn Devon.

You may like to join an online art group or one that meets locally to you.

Your tutor will suggest ideas on what you can practice and how to build on what you have learnt. They will signpost you to other opportunities to support your learning. ”
