Pottery for all: FULL
Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who has an interest in learning how to make things from clay. It is aimed at any level, from beginner onwards.
You will be trying a variety of activities. These include tile making, slab building, pots (hand built and on the wheel). You will use glazes and colour to decorate your objects. You will be able to explore your own ideas and follow set practical tasks.
Support and feedback
Your tutor will support you throughout the course. You will work with your tutor on your personal goals within the structure of the course. You will receive feedback on your progress and suggestions as to how to improve.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Wear old clothes. There is a charge for materials and firing which works out at 4.00 per kg for finished work. (e.g. a cereal bowl size about £2.00)
Please be aware that due to the nature of ceramics some items may not complete the firing process as you envisioned. This can include cracks, breakages and unintentional glaze finishes. You will only be charged for fired items that you take away with you.

“How will I learn?
You will be working with your tutor in the pottery room at Bideford Arts Centre. Your course will include practical tasks and discussions and your tutor will support you throughout. This will help you to get the best from the course and to progress at a pace you are comfortable with.

There will be other pottery courses to progress onto as well as a range of virtual courses taught via ‘zoom’, including:
Watercolours using texture and special effects, Illustration or choose from a range of art and craft courses with Learn Devon. You may like to join an online craft group or one that meets locally to you. Your tutor will suggest ideas on what you can practice and how to build on what you have learnt. They will signpost you to other opportunities to support your learning.”
