Who is this course for?
This course may suit you if you want to get crafty and have some fun making homemade decorations for yourself or others. Great activity to do with family, suitable for all ages.
These are short interactive online live courses aimed at building your skills and knowledge for developing your understanding around art, craft and creativity. They include practical elements and an opportunity to have live discussions with your tutor and others on the course.
This course is suitable for anyone, this is a course for all abilities.
You will be working with your tutor in a virtual learning environment using an online video platform called Zoom. You will be accompanied in your virtual class, with other learners. Your tutor will give practical demonstrations, have discussions, set tasks, give feedback and will support you throughout the course.
You will be make Christmas decorations from homemade salt dough or air dry modelling clay.
There will be the opportunity to explore your own ideas and follow set practical tasks.
Support and feedback
Your tutor will support you throughout the course through online face to face and written feedback on your progress and suggestions on how to progress. You will work with your tutor on your personal goals within the structure of the course. Demonstration and instruction from tutor. One to one support as appropriate. Ongoing review of tasks and outcomes through discussion with tutor and group. Informal talks and feedback and a short learning plan to complete.
Additional costs and requirements
You will need a laptop / PC / phone / tablet with a camera and microphone/headphones and a good internet connection.
You will need some homemade salt dough (tutor will provide a recipe) or some air dry modelling clay (Daz and Fimo are good brands), some cutlery or clay tools, a pencil, cookie cutters would be useful but are not essential, string or ribbon to hang decorations once they are dry.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

About the tutor
Our tutors are friendly and approachable, very supportive and understanding and are all highly experienced and skilled in supporting adults from all backgrounds to learn new skills. Franca Westaway has been teaching art and design since she came to the South West in the 1990s. Franca is passionate about helping others to gain creative skills and confidence, whatever their area of interest. She has a wide range of experience both in schools and with people of all ages within the community and is particularly keen on 3D and practical techniques across many materials and disciplines, as well as the use of art for personal development and expression and as a therapeutic tool.
