If you have answered yes to any of these questions, then this course is perfect for you.
You will be guided, by our tutor, through the crafting processes needed to make some beautiful items to celebrate the Summer Season.
The sessions are designed to promote the sharing of ideas in a supportive setting where your creativity will unfold, and you will be proud of your handiwork.
Each week you will be guided by your tutor to make a different hand-crafted item.
As well as making a variety of beautiful hand-crafted items, you are sure to learn many new skills along the way.
Support and feedback
Your tutor will give practical demonstrations, have discussions, set tasks, give feedback and will support you throughout the course. You will work with your tutor on your personal goals within the structure of the course.
Additional costs and requirements
This course is delivered online and provided free of charge. You will, however, need a computer or a tablet with a stable internet connection, as well as a built in or external microphone and camera to attend the course.
You will be working with your tutor in a virtual learning environment using an online video platform called Zoom. You will be accompanied in your virtual class, with other learners.
To be able to take part in online learning you will be sent a zoom invitation with your access code.
You will need to provide all of the resources needed to make your items, a basic list included here:-
Basic equipment needed will include:-
A selection of paper and card stock
A selection of cotton fabric
Paper and fabric cutting scissors
Needle and thread
Double sided sticky tape
Glue gun and glue sticks
Wool (3 balls, in 3 different colours)
1 m length of 4 – 8mm Ribbon
Card (mount board or cereal box)
You will be sent a full, more detailed list direct from the tutor, once you have enrolled on the course.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
You will need to gather all of the resources required ahead of the course.
About the tutor
Your tutor will be Amanda Barrud.
Amanda teaches across a broad curriculum including craft and Family Learning, in addition to Independent Living and Life Skills to adults with learning disabilities. Before taking up employment with Learn Devon in 2002, Amanda worked for the Kent Institute of Art and Design after graduating from the University of Kent with a degree in Psychology.
Her approach to teaching is to provide a supportive environment to encourage experimentation, the trying out of new ideas to enable learners to be challenged. She is reputed to be patient, and eager to explore new techniques and materials to enthuse and inspire her classes.
A mother of 4 children and 1 grandchild, Amanda believes that her life experience has had a positive impact on her teaching. She also works for Mencap, coordinating events and activities for adults with learning disabilities in North Devon.
