Who is this course for?

What to do with that old necklace or broken colander? This is a course that will encourage you to look at everyday or found items in a creative way to make a unique and interesting mobile/ornament for the garden or home. Suitable for complete beginners or with some experience.

Course content

You will be using found and recycled materials to make and enhance garden ornaments, hangings and mobiles

Support and feedback

Your tutor will give practical demonstrations, have discussions, set tasks, give feedback and will support you throughout the workshop.

Additional costs and requirements

This course is delivered online and provided free of charge. You will, however, need a computer or a tablet with a stable internet connection, as well as a built in or external microphone and camera to attend the course.

In addition, you will need plastic water/pop bottles, beads, old jewellery, shells, bendable wire, garden string or strong thread, permanent markers or acrylic paint, glue gun or pva, disposable baking trays (optional) and anything waterproof that can be used for hanging decorations from, such as 2 pieces of driftwood or an old metal colander.

About the tutor

Your tutor will be Colette Olah. Colette started working as a tutor for Learn Devon in September 2018 and delivers a variety of art and craft, employability and computer skills courses. She is a qualified art and design teacher who has worked in both mainstream and special education. Colette has also delivered Independent Life Skills to adults with learning disabilities and taught basic cooking, art and drawing skills in adult education classes in Worcestershire. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the many beautiful beaches in North Devon and also searching for bargains at flea markets and car boot sales. Colette enjoys teaching at Learn Devon because she is keen to help her learners progress and achieve their goals. She believes that lifelong learning and gaining new skills can create a sense of wellbeing and improved self-esteem and aims to create a relaxed and enjoyable environment for all participants.
