Who is this course for?

Would you like to have a go at making your own festive wreath and garland to decorate your home? If so, this is the workshop for you.

Course content

Using natural materials, you will be guided through all of the techniques needed to make a handmade festive wreath and garland.

Support and feedback

Your tutor will be there to support and guide you throughout the course and will give you feedback at the end of the course.

If you feel you require any support for your learning, please talk to the tutor or centre staff. Any information given will be treated confidentially.

Additional costs and requirements

You will need to bring the following items with you; (if you are unable to obtain anything on the list, please let the centre or tutor know, so we can source additional items on your behalf).


Wire cutters

18 inch wire wreath base

1 spool of 20 – 24 gauge florist wire or garden wire or a reel

Pack of florist wire stems

3 – 4 metre length of rope or heavy string

Gardening gloves (optional)

Lots of greenery, this can be shared with others in the class so you don’t need to find everything, just bring a selection of greenery, such as:-

Holly, Dogwood, Willow, Silver Birch, Fir, Magnolia, Mistletoe, Pine, Ivy, Eucalyptus, Spruce, Juniper, Rosemary, Moss

Decorative items, as many or a few as you like, such as:-

Gold or silver spray paint (optional), Twigs, Pine cones, Cinnamon sticks, Artificial berries, Dried Fruit slices,

Fresh fruits, such as:- cranberries, citrus fruits, plums



Burlap/hessian ribbon


This course is offered as classroom based learning at Bideford Arts Centre

Please note if regional lockdown is activated this course will be offered as on-line learning via zoom.

The time and day will remain the same, along with your tutor.

To be able to take part in online learning you will be sent a zoom invitation with your access code, you will require a PC with camera and microphone.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

You will need to gather your foliage/greenery and materials ready for using in the class.

It is advisable to keep cut greenery hydrated before using.

About the tutor

Your tutor will be Amanda Barrud. Amanda has been working for Learn Devon since 2002 and teaches a variety of arts and crafts courses as well as family learning courses and courses for adults with learning disabilities and difficulties. Amanda also works for Mencap, coordinating events and activities for adults with learning disabilities in North Devon. She graduated from the University of Kent and worked for the Kent Institute of Art and Design before taking up employment with Learn Devon. Amanda has four children and one grandchild and has valuable real-life experiences of raising a family through challenging times. Amanda is passionate about crafting and spends most of her spare time crafting or learning new craft techniques. She is a patient tutor who is well known for facilitating learners to have a go at new challenges. Amanda provides a supportive environment for leaners to experiment and try new ideas, as she recognises the potential in others and spurs them on to achieve their ambitions.
