Who is this course for?
Learn how to make miniature books to use as gift labels in this relaxed creative workshop.
This is a beginner’s course and is suitable for those wishing to learn how to assemble an individual gift label using simple casement binding
You will learn the binding skills of page sewing using a French Link Stitch and how to cover and assemble your book.
By the end of the course you will have produced at least one miniature book bound in the covering of your choice
Additional costs and requirements
You will be sent a list of materials and essential tools with guidance on where to buy them so that the session can be focused on the technical aspects of sewing and construction of a book.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
There will not be formal homework but learners are encouraged to continue to develop your practice outside of the session to further develop confidence in techniques learned.
About the tutor
Brian Norman works as a Tutor for Learn Devon; and delivers a range of skills focussed courses. These include Employability (incorporating IT skills), Printmaking and Bookbinding.
He is also a qualified and practicing Specialist Mental Health Mentor with other organisations.
Brian has a BA in Fine Art; specialising in Printmaking, from Sunderland University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Online Education from Open University (Accessing and planning learning, in an online environment) and a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education from University College Suffolk.
Brian has gained a broad understanding of Microsoft and Apple computing environments and a range of related software.
His practice is focused on supporting individuals to explore their potential and enabling them to strive towards personal goals. These skills have been shared within some of Learn Devon’s employability and IT projects.
