Who is this course for?
Suitable for complete beginners or anyone with some experience of art or creative/decorative textile techniques.
Trying a range of decorative textile techniques and processes including fabric painting, simple print methods and batik. Opportunity to produce a series of samples or a final outcome piece.
Support and feedback
Demonstration and instruction from tutor. One to one support as appropriate. Ongoing review of set tasks and outcomes through discussion with tutor and group.
Informal talks and feedback and a short learning plan to complete.
Additional costs and requirements
A 2m length of cotton calico fabric, or other plain cotton fabric suitable for dye/wax/colour application(like an old sheet). Plain cotton clothing, like a white t-shirt that you may like to paint, print or dye.
An apron or old clothes for wet medium techniques.
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August and your household income below £16,009.50 to access this fund. Please contact your local centre for more details.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Collect, prepare and bring the suggested materials and fabrics.
About the tutor
Franca Westaway has been doing all things arty from an early age, dyeing and painting fabrics and sewing and making clothes since she was 11 years old! She trained and worked in Fashion and before moving into arts, textile and food teaching when she came to the South West in the 1990s. Franca is passionate about helping others to gain creative skills and confidence, whatever their area of interest.
