Who is this course for?

Suitable for anyone. This is a course for all abilities.

Course content

Drawing for pleasure. Using a range of materials and techniques to explore drawing and mark-making. A fun session with the chance to sketch, doodle, work from observation of plants and still life or let your imagination take the lead. Simple warm up and fun tasks will help you decide which materials and approaches you’d like to use. Instruction will be given for those who wish to develop observational drawing skills.

Support and feedback

Demonstration and instruction from tutor. One to one support as appropriate. Ongoing review of set tasks and outcomes through discussion with tutor and group.

Informal talks and feedback and a short learning plan to complete.

Additional costs and requirements

An apron or old clothes to work in as different materials can be messy.

No entry requirements.

You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2017 and your household income below £16,009.50 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

.he tutor will set some optional tasks for individuals or the whole group within the session. You are free to bring in your own visual resources, objects and research as a basis for the session and your own drawing materials if preferred but this is not necessary.

About the tutor

Franca Westaway has been teaching art and design since she came to the South West in the 1990s. Franca is passionate about helping others to gain creative skills and confidence, whatever their area of interest. She has a wide range of experience both in schools and with people of all ages within the community and is particularly keen on 3D and practical techniques across many materials and disciplines, as well as the use of art for personal development and expression and as a therapeutic tool.
