Pottery for all
Who is this course for?
Come and learn different pottery techniques in a fun and friendly environment. In a fully equipped workshop you will be introduced to hand-building, using decorating slips and applying glaze.
This is suitable for complete beginners.
Preparing clay, using different forming techniques. Applying textures, slips, oxides and glaze finishes. Being given practical demonstrations. Having opportunity to discuss ideas with the tutor and other members of the group.
Support and feedback
Lots of discussions with the tutor and experiencing the practical results.
Additional costs and requirements
You will need your own apron or overall.
There is a charge for materials and firings which works out at 4.00 per kg for finished work. (eg. a cereal bowl size about £2.00)
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged 19 or over on 31st August 2019 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.”
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Nothing official. You might want to research the sorts of pottery you like or what you find inspiring.
About the tutor
Franca Westaway has been teaching art and design since she came to the South West in the 1990s. Franca is passionate about helping others to gain creative skills and confidence, whatever their area of interest. She has a wide range of experience both in schools and with people of all ages within the community and is particularly keen on 3D and practical techniques across many materials and disciplines.
