Introduction to printmaking: block, lino and mono prints

Who is this course for?

This relaxed course is focused on creative play exploring the endless variety offered by monotype. Techniques are suitable for the beginner and advanced printmaker.

Course content

You will learn how to select appropriate foliage and flowers to sketch.

Learn how to consider shape, colour, texture, pattern when creating motifs for your wallpaper design.

Develop your design pattern by creating hand drawn images and tracings.

Support and feedback

Your tutor will be there for constant support and advice. You will get continual support and feedback from your tutor throughout the course and have opportunities to discuss and review your progress.

Additional costs and requirements

Please bring tracing paper, a sketch pad and pencils and coloured pencils or watercolours and a brush and water pot.

Also bring botanical images that inspire you.

You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged 19 or over on 31st August 2019 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.”

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

You will be given guidance as part of the workshop to help you should you wish to experiment further in your own time.

About the tutor

Franca Westaway has been teaching art and design since she came to the South West in the 1990s. Franca is passionate about helping others to gain creative skills and confidence, whatever their area of interest. She has a wide range of experience both in schools and with people of all ages within the community and is particularly keen on 3D and practical techniques across many materials and disciplines.
