Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at complete beginners and those that may have some experience of using mosaic tiles before.

Course content

During the 5 sessions, you will be using the indirect method of mosaic, working onto paper and cardboard, using a mixture of small, glass tiles and treasured bits of crockery. This will then be mounted using tile adhesive and grout to complete a decorative panel or mirror surround.

Support and feedback

The tutor will provide full support and advice throughout the course along with practical demonstrations.

Additional costs and requirements

It is advisable to wear old clothes or bring along an apron/shirt. If you have any broken bits of crockery that you would like to incorporate into your design, please bring these along.

You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged 19 or over on 31st August 2019 and your household income below £16,009.50 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

There is no requirement to undertake any additional work in your own time

About the tutor

Your tutor will be Colette Olah. Colette started working as a tutor for Learn Devon in September 2018 and delivers a variety of art and craft, employability and computer skills courses. She is a qualified art and design teacher who has worked in both mainstream and special education. Colette has also delivered Independent Life Skills to adults with learning disabilities and taught basic cooking, art and drawing skills in adult education classes in Worcestershire. In her spare time, she enjoys going to the many beautiful beaches in North Devon and also searching for bargains at flea markets and car boot sales. Colette enjoys teaching at Learn Devon because she is keen to help her learners progress and achieve their goals. She believes that lifelong learning and gaining new skills can create a sense of wellbeing and improved self-esteem and aims to create a relaxed and enjoyable environment for all participants.
