Who is this course for?
This is an introduction to simple sewing techniques. Taught in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
Course content
You will learn some basic sewing techniques demonstrated on the sewing machine and sewing by hand. You will learn how to use a sewing machine, turn up a hem and how to sew a French seam. You will be able to use these skills learnt in further sewing courses this term or on your own projects.

Please bring a basic sewing kit if you have one.
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2019 and your household income below £16,009.50 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
No, there is no need to do anything in your own time
About the tutor
Nicky Montagu is an Art, Craft and Design tutor for Learn Devon. She has taught many different courses in London as an Art and Design Lecturer.
Nicky is interested in many different areas of art, craft and design including textiles, printing, sewing, manipulating fabrics, pattern and form in ceramics, interior design and printmaking.
Nicky aims to devise courses that are suitable for all levels from complete beginners to learners with more experience and where possible learners can continue their work at home with minimum need for specialist materials.
