Make a bag or cushion from recycled fabric
Who is this course for?
Learn to make your own cushion cover or bag from recycled fabrics.
If you’ve never sat at a sewing machine before, or have forgotten how to sew then this a fun way to learn or relearn, in a group of people who are also new to sewing!
You will be creating a cushion cover or a simple tote bag using upcycled fabric. This could be from clothing, jeans or curtain fabric. You will learn how to set up the sewing machine, how to sew seams and finish edges.
Support and feedback
To find out how you are getting on, you will have one-to-one discussions with your tutor.
If you feel you require any support for your learning, please talk to a tutor or centre staff who will arrange for you to receive support or talk to a learning support tutor. Any information given will be treated confidentially.
Additional costs and requirements
No previous experience is required. We have Janome sewing machines for you to use in our workshop. Please bring some
Fabric with you, some old clothes or curtain fabric would be ideal. A basic sewing kit would be useful but not essential. Please don’t buy anything especially for this workshop. Useful items include: Needles, threads, fabric scissors, paper scissors, embroidery scissors, a stitch ripper, pins in a pin cushion, a tape measure. Please store all items in a tin or box.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
