Who is this course for?
Suitable for all
In this course we will explore watercolours as an expressive medium, exploring their multiple abstract possibilities.
We will work with salts, wax, rice and other manipulation techniques to create dynamic expressive studies.
When creating pieces, we will work from observation and our imagination.
You will learn skills that will enable you to further your ability to make expressive and accurate paintings.
You will learn how to use a variety of manipulation techniques.
You will achieve a wide variety of finished works, gain confidence in being expressive when making art works…have lots of fun, make friends and not worry about creating a perfect finished piece!
Support and feedback
The tutor will ensure that you have a good understanding of what you will be doing during the lesson.
They will also support you when needed with technical and creative elements of the lesson.
There will also be plenty of opportunities for the tutor to give you supportive feedback on the work that you have done and the techniques and styles that you may wish to use/practice.
Additional costs and requirements
There are no entry requirements for the course, you just need to have an interest in developing your knowledge and skill in the subject.
Please bring a sketchbook, a pen and an apron.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
You will not need to do anything outside of the class. However, the tutor will give you ideas and potential projects that you could do at home when practicing what you have learnt.
About the tutor
Harry Roberts currently works on Art and Design courses and a range of Art/music based ALDD courses for Learn Devon.
Prior to this he worked for North Devon College (Petroc) for 12 years as a Fine Art Lecturer and Tutor. Before this he had four artist-in-residence positions in the UK and was International Research Fellow at Exeter College of Art and Frankfurt Akademie, and Junior Fellow at South Glamorgan University.
Harry has a PGCE from the University of Reading and a BA Hons (Ist class) from the Polytechnic Wolverhampton and Ecole des Beaux Arts de Lyon.
When he was a student his tutor was Anish Kapoor.
