Botanic drawing

Gate House, Totnes

Who is this course for?

Suitable for all

Course content

Botanic Drawing is an opportunity to make short dynamic expressive studies and longer sustained drawings from natural flowers and plants. It is not a Botanical Illustration course.

We will work in a variety of media including pencils, charcoal, inks, chalks, oil pastels, light, resists, collage and more. There will be a focus on mark making and creating emotionally responsive drawings. We will draw from observation and from imagination.

You will achieve a wide variety of finished works, gain confidence in being expressive when making art works…have lots of fun, make friends and not worry about creating a perfect finished piece!

Support and feedback

The tutor will ensure that you have a good understanding of what you will be doing during the lesson.

They will also support you when needed with technical and creative elements of the lesson.

There will also be plenty of opportunities for the tutor to give you supportive feedback on the work that you have done and the techniques and styles that you may wish to use/practice.

Additional costs and requirements

There are no entry requirements for the course, you just need to have an interest in developing your knowledge and skill in the subject.

Please bring a sketchbook, a pen and an apron.

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

You will not need to do anything outside of the class. However, the tutor will give you ideas and potential projects that you could do at home when practicing what you have learnt.
