Who is this course for?

This course will unlock the secrets of how to draw and will improve your drawing ability. We all drew before we could speak; it is part of being a human. Discover these skills in a fun, friendly and supportive atmosphere. 

You may be a complete beginner or someone looking to gain more confidence in their drawing skills 

Course content

You will be drawing from both ‘still life’ and your imagination, using measurement, perspective, mark making and composition. 

Support and feedback

The tutor will advise, help and support throughout the course. 

Additional costs and requirements

Pencils, eraser, a range of paintbrushes, small sketchbook. 


You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2018 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details. 

Will I have to do anything outside of the session?

No, but anything you did would be a benefit to you. 

About the tutor

Harry Roberts currently works on Art and Design courses and a range of Art/music based ALDD courses for Learn Devon.  


Prior to this he worked for North Devon College (Petroc) for 12 years as a Fine Art Lecturer and Tutor. Before this he had four artist-in-residence positions in the UK and was International Research Fellow at Exeter College of Art and Frankfurt Akademie, and Junior Fellow at South Glamorgan University.  


Harry has a PGCE from the University of Reading and a BA Hons (Ist class) from the Polytechnic Wolverhampton and Ecole des Beaux Arts de Lyon.  


His current area of interest is in using paper pulp, dyes and oil paint to create large constructions that straddle the line between painting and sculpture. The current series of five works has taken four years and is due for exhibition next year.  


He has held one-man shows at most large cities in the UK including two in London and has won 12 awards and prizes at local and national exhibitions and was awarded the gold medal in Fine Art in Newport, Wales.  


His work is in various public and private collections including; Tarmac, Granada Television and three LEA collections.  


When he was a student his tutor was Anish Kapoor.
