Watercolours for beginners 1
Who is this course for?
In this watercolour painting course, you will learn different painting techniques that will enable you to develop your skills within watercolour painting. Taught in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
You will learn different watercolour painting techniques including, washes and masks, you will learn how to mix colour and learn about colour theory. You will be able to experiment and create a sample book of techniques. In the following weeks you will be able to develop these skills in short projects including painting from natural objects or something of your own choice. Throughout the course your tutor will show you different artists work to inspire and inform you.

Your tutor will be there for assistance and advice.
Additional costs and requirements
Please bring any watercolour paints that you have, brushes and paper.
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2018 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
No, there is no need to do anything in your own time, but you may wish to experiment on your own between classes.
About the tutor
Nicky Montagu is an Art, Craft & design tutor for Learn Devon and teaches study skills at Petroc college. She has taught on many different courses in London as an Art & Design Lecturer, including Richmond upon Thames College and London College of Fashion. She graduated from the University of East London with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art and gained a PGCE teacher training at the University of Greenwich.
She has worked as an Interior Designer on both domestic and commercial projects, and as a freelance lighting designer for Home-deq
Nicky has lived in Devon for the past four years where she has recently set up a printmaking studio. Her current work is about living on the Taw estuary in North Devon and is interested in texture and pattern in the landscape inspired by the ambient light and changing tides and seasons.
