Creative textile techniques
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for everyone interested in textile techniques, fabric manipulation and creative stitching. The projects are suitable for beginners as well as those with previous experience.
This course will introduce several textile techniques including needle felting, hand embroidery, appliqué and weaving. You will create a small portfolio of work including samples, colour palettes and sources of inspiration.
Support and feedback
To find out how you are getting on, you will complete an individual learning plan and have one-to-one discussions with your tutor. You will also create a small portfolio to demonstrate your work including samples and ideas.
Additional costs and requirements
All equipment and supplies will be provided.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
To get the most out of this course, you will need to finish work started in class each week ready for the following week. There will also be some research to complete.
About the tutor
Sam Brown currently works as a tutor for Learn Devon running courses in craft and design. Prior to this she had a varied career working as a Graphic Designer, an Interior Designer and as a Manager in interior and fashion retail.
Sam has a BA(Hons) in Design/Typography from the University of Plymouth as well as diplomas in Interior Design and Fashion and Textile Design.
Since childhood, Sam has loved making handcrafted pieces, developing skills in needlecraft and creative textiles techniques. She is interested in combining old and new technologies in her work from hand embroidery to digitally printed fabrics and from letterpress printing to Adobe Creative Cloud.
