Who is this course for?
Come and learn different pottery techniques in a fun and friendly environment. In a fully equipped workshop you can learn or improve hand-building skills, throwing on the potter’s wheel, decorating and glazing. You can develop your creative ideas into practical projects, making items you can take away and use. This course is suitable for those with experience in clay work.
Preparing clay, using different forming techniques. Applying textures, slips, oxides and glaze finishes. Being given practical demonstrations. Having opportunity to discuss ideas with the tutor and other members of the group.
Support and feedback
Lots of discussions with the tutor and experiencing the practical results.
Additional costs and requirements
You will need your own apron or overall.
There is a charge for materials and firings which works out at £3.80 per kg for finished work. (eg. a cereal bowl size about £1.80)
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Nothing official. You might want to research the sorts of pottery you like or what you find inspiring.
About the tutor
Gwen Vaughan is an experienced Arts and Crafts tutor for Learn Devon based primarily in West Devon.
She has a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from The University of Exeter and a BA (hons) in Three-Dimensional Design from Cardiff College of Art, specialising in Ceramics.
Gwen is a professional self-employed artist, who exhibits and sells her work internationally.
