Bunting and flags
Who is this course for?
This workshop is suitable for beginners or those with a little experience
Bunting is a traditional decoration used in street parties, birthday parties, party decorations or to decorate your house and garden all year round.
During the day you will use machine and hand stitching techniques to create bunting and flags. You may want to add ribbons buttons which will make your bunting unique to you for your special occasion.
Support and feedback
Your tutor will support you throughout the session.
Additional costs and requirements
Some materials will be supplied but if you have any fabric scraps, buttons, ribbons or braid for decoration/patterns to inspire you please bring these along with you.
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2017 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.

About the tutor
Nicky Montagu is an Art, Craft & design tutor for Learn Devon and teaches study skills at Petroc college. She has taught on many different courses in London as an Art & Design Lecturer, including Richmond upon Thames College and London College of Fashion. She graduated from the University of East London with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art and gained a PGCE teacher training at the University of Greenwich.
She has worked as an Interior Designer on both domestic and commercial projects, and as a freelance lighting designer for Home-deq
Nicky has lived in Devon for the past four years where she has recently set up a printmaking studio. Her current work is about living on the Taw estuary in North Devon. She is interested in texture and pattern in the landscape, inspired by the ambient light and changing tides and seasons. Other areas of interest are design including textiles, printing, sewing, manipulating fabrics, pattern and form in ceramics, interior design and printmaking.
Nicky aims to devise courses that are suitable for all levels from complete beginners to learners with more experience and where possible learners are able to continue their work at home with minimum need for specialist materials.
Her teaching is inclusive instructive and is set in an environment that is relaxed and informal where learners can learn and share in a supportive environment.
Nicky is a member of NDA North Devon Arts and has exhibited in their open exhibitions at the Broomhill Hotel also The Burton open exhibition and Westward Ho! open exhibition. In 2015 she took part in NDA Art Trek.
