More mixed media
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for those learners who have completed the beginners mixed media course and for new learners interested in different mediums of art and craft.
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August and your household income below £15276 to access this fund. Please contact your local centre for more details
You could cover a range of art and craft disciplines: painting, watercolour, collage, relief plasterwork, mixed media, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, etc. The difference with this course is that it allows you to decide which media you want to work in. For example: the tutor could set up a still life arrangement and you could choose to either draw the still life, make a ceramic relief or wire and plaster sculpture etc. You get to concentrate on the media and work with materials you prefer.

Additional costs and requirements
There are some materials available but if you have any pencils, brushes, scissors, watercolours, paints, fabric materials of your choice you may wish to bring these with you depending on which medium you prefer to work with.

About the tutor
Harry Roberts currently works on Art and Design courses and a range of Art/music based ALDD courses for Learn Devon. For two months over the summer he works for a language company at Shebbear College, teaching English and Sport to French students.
Prior to this he worked for North Devon College for 12 years as a Fine Art Lecturer and Tutor. Before this he had four artist-in-residence positions in the UK and was International Research Fellow at Exeter College of Art and Frankfurt Akademie, and Junior Fellow at South Glamorgan University.
Harry has a PGCE from the University of Reading and a BA Hons (Ist class) from the Polytechnic Wolverhampton and Ecole des Beaux Arts de Lyon.
His current area of interest is in using paper pulp, dyes and oil paint to create large constructions that straddle the line between painting and sculpture. The current series of five works has taken four years and is due for exhibition next year.
He has held one-man shows at most large cities in the UK including two in London and has won 12 awards and prizes at local and national exhibitions and was awarded the gold medal in Fine Art in Newport, Wales.
His work is in various public and private collections including; Tarmac, Granada Television and three LEA collections.
When he was a student his tutor was Anish Kapoor.
