Who is this course for?
This course is for beginners to those with some experience of watercolour painting who would like to develop their own personal projects with the help and guidance from the tutor.
You will start with some warm up exercises painting from life and then more freely with the support of your tutor.

The tutor will provided 1:1 support, feedback and encouragement.
Additional costs and requirements
There are some watercolour paints to borrow if you need to but bring your own paint, brushes and palette if you have them. There will be some basic economy watercolour paper to purchase from the tutor and drawing boards to borrow. If you wish to stretch paper you will need to bring your own board and gum strip.
Please ensure the course is running before you purchase any materials/equipment.
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2017 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
The tutor may recommend artists to look at – this can also be done in class on the tablet.
About the tutor
Nicky Montagu is an Art, Craft & design tutor for Learn Devon and teaches study skills at Petroc college. She has taught on many different courses in London as an Art & Design Lecturer, including Richmond upon Thames College and London College of Fashion. She graduated from the University of East London with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art and gained a PGCE teacher training at the University of Greenwich.
She has worked as an Interior Designer on both domestic and commercial projects, and as a freelance lighting designer for Home-deq
Nicky has lived in Devon for the past four years where she has recently set up a printmaking studio. Her current work is about living on the Taw estuary in North Devon and is interested in texture and pattern in the landscape inspired by the ambient light and changing tides and seasons. She is interested in many different areas of art, craft and design including textiles, printing, sewing, manipulating fabrics, pattern and form in ceramics, interior design and printmaking.
Nicky aims to devise courses that are suitable for all levels from complete beginners to learners with more experience and where possible learners are able to continue their work at home with minimum need for specialist materials.
Her teaching is inclusive instructive and is set in an environment that is relaxed and informal where learners can learn and share in a supportive environment.
Nicky is a member of NDA North Devon Arts and has exhibited in their open exhibitions at the Broomhill Hotel also The Burton open exhibition and Westward Ho! open exhibition. In 2015 she took part in NDA Art Trek.
Currently she has work in Lantic Gallery Tiverton Devon, Churchgate Gallery Porlock Somerset, Gallery 39 in Barnstaple and Off Shore Blooms in Braunton
