Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for beginners or those with some experience
During the course you will be learning to observe and record using a range of different media. You will learn about different techniques using the various mediums The course includes a variety of art & craft projects, learn how to paint, make a simple decorated book, make paper & textile decorations for your home or for lovely gifts
Support and feedback
Your tutor will support and advise you on the practical work, and will give guidance and advice on all tasks. You will be given feedback informally in discussion with your tutor and peers.
Additional costs and requirements
All materials are supplied but you could bring any fabrics, buttons, braid or anything you have from home you think maybe useful to use in your projects.
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2017 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Although homework is not essential, opportunities to practice what you have learned in class between the sessions would be an advantage
About the tutor
Nicky Montagu is an Art, Craft & design tutor for Learn Devon and teaches study skills at Petroc college. She has taught on many different courses in London as an Art & Design Lecturer, including Richmond upon Thames College and London College of Fashion. She graduated from the University of East London with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art and gained a PGCE teacher training at the University of Greenwich.
She has worked as an Interior Designer on both domestic and commercial projects, and as a freelance lighting designer for Home-deq
Nicky has lived in Devon for the past four years where she has recently set up a printmaking studio. Her current work is about living on the Taw estuary in North Devon and is interested in texture and pattern in the landscape inspired by the ambient light and changing tides and seasons. She is interested in many different areas of art, craft and design including textiles, printing, sewing, manipulating fabrics, pattern and form in ceramics, interior design and printmaking.
Nicky aims to devise courses that are suitable for all levels from complete beginners to learners with more experience and where possible learners are able to continue their work at home with minimum need for specialist materials.
Her teaching is inclusive instructive and is set in an environment that is relaxed and informal where learners can learn and share in a supportive environment.
