Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for those who have some sewing machine experience. It is not suitable for beginners.
Come along and learn how to make your own cotton knickers!
During this workshop you’ll learn all the techniques needed to make your own pair of knickers. French seams, attaching elastic and trimmings will all be demonstrated.

To find out how you are getting on, you will have one-to-one discussions with your tutor.
Additional costs and requirements
Just bring your measurements with you – you will need a hip measurement for yourself or whoever you’ll be making these for.
You will need to bring a ‘fat quarter’ of cotton or cotton lawn fabric. Knicker elastic will be provided and some lovely trimmings!
There are Janome sewing machines available for you to use during this workshop.
Please wear suitable clothing and bring a notebook and pencil/pen.
You may be eligible for a learner bursary if you can demonstrate that attending a course will improve your wellbeing. Eligibility is determined after a short interview with a member of our learning support team. You must be aged over 19 on 31st August 2017 and your household income below £15,276 to access this fund. Contact your local centre for more details.
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
To get the most out of this course, you may need to finish work started in class each week ready for the following week.
About the tutor
Sam Brown currently works as a tutor for Learn Devon running courses in craft and design. Prior to this she had a varied career working as a Graphic Designer, an Interior Designer and as a Manager in interior and fashion retail.
Sam has a BA(Hons) in Design/Typography from the University of Plymouth as well as diplomas in Interior Design and Fashion and Textile Design.
Since childhood, Sam has loved making handcrafted pieces, developing skills in needlecraft and creative textiles techniques. She is interested in combining old and new technologies in her work from hand embroidery to digitally printed fabrics and from letterpress printing to Adobe Creative Cloud.
