Painting on canvas (FULL)
Who is this course for?
Suitable for all levels, you will work at your own pace
and level of ability. The tutor will offer 1:1 support as
required and complete beginners may be given
separate preliminary exercises if required. The best
way to learn to paint is to dive in and have a go.
We will be making paintings on canvases or canvas
boards. You can choose to work in either oil or
acrylics. You can work from your own choice of
subject and style, representational or abstract. There
will be the option of working from a still life in the
Week 1: Gathering ideas via drawing: from a still life
in the studio or your own drawings/photos which you
can bring to class
Week 2: Design and composition
Week 3: Colour palettes
Weeks 4-8: Develop your painting on canvas
Support and feedback
Lots of 1 to 1 support and feedback and
encouragement from the tutor and group
Additional costs and requirements
Entry requirements: willingness to have a go and
drop critical thinking!
Please bring with you:
Week 1 : pencils or charcoal, sketchbook (A3 size or
A4), some source material (drawing or photo) or
there is the option to work from a still life in the
Week 2: sketchbook and pencil/pen
Week 3: oil or acrylic paint, suitable paper,
sketchbook, brushes, palette, jam jar
Weeks 4-8:: oil or acrylic paint, canvas, sketchbook,
brushes, palette, jam jar
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
No – but the tutor may suggest you look at certain
painters in between sessions to enrich your learning.
About the tutor
Suzy Fasht has been teaching drawing and painting for Learn Devon for the last eight years and is fully qualified to teach in the Lifelong Learning sector. She trained in Fine Art to post-graduate level and continues her own painting practise from her studio at Seale Hayne.
