Who is this course for?
Come and learn different pottery techniques in a fun and friendly environment. In a fully equipped workshop you can learn or improve hand-building skills, throwing on the potter’s wheel, decorating and glazing. You can develop your creative ideas into practical projects, making items you can take away and use. This is suitable for beginners and those with experience.
Preparing clay, using different forming techniques. Applying textures, slips, oxides and glaze finishes. Being given practical demonstrations. Having opportunity to discuss ideas with the tutor and other members of the group.
Support and feedback
Lots of discussions with the tutor and experiencing the practical results.
Additional costs and requirements
You will need your own apron or overall.
There is a charge for materials and firings which works out at £3.80 per kg for finished work. (eg. a cereal bowl size about £1.80)
Will I have to do anything outside of the session?
Nothing official. You might want to research the sorts of pottery you like or what you find inspiring.
About the tutor
Deb Perry has been teaching in adult education for 25 years as well as working as a designer and maker. Although a well qualified ceramics specialist with an M.A gained in Stoke-on-Trent, she has a lot of experience in different arts and crafts including recycling, printing, textiles and props and costumes for theatre.
