Learn Devon Coronavirus Update
Posted on: 15 April 2020
Updated on Wednesday 15th April 2020.
Classes have been cancelled and centres closed until further notice.
This means that we will no longer be offering courses at our centres or at any of the external venues we use until the government advice changes. This includes our centres in Tavistock, Exmouth, Bideford, Okehampton and Newton Abbot. However, our phone lines will remain open and emails monitored as usual, so if you have any concerns or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your local centre by phone or by email.
English and maths courses and apprenticeship studies will continue online
We will continue to offer support for English, maths and apprenticeship qualifications through a variety of online methods including email, Skype and Microsoft Teams. We will also be posting materials online for study outside of the classroom environment. Our staff will be contacting each learner directly to discuss how they can best access their learning.
We are awaiting more information from the government regarding GCSE examinations and we hope to find out more in the coming days which we will share with learners and provide support and advice on the next steps for them.
We will continue to offer initial assessments for maths and English in preparation for joining our courses in September. These assessments will take place online along with a telephone interview. Learners who are not able to access the assessment online will be prioritised for face to face appointments when we re-open.
For courses that we have to cancel, we will either re-schedule the course or provide a full or partial (pro-rata) refund where rearranging is not suitable for the course or the learner. We kindly ask you to be patient with our staff whilst they work through these options with all learners as this is a large volume of work to be done.
We are closely monitoring the situation and strictly adhering to government advice. We will take every measure to keep you informed. The best way to keep in contact is by subscribing to our emailing list but we will also be updating our website and social media, and use text messaging.
We would like to remind you of the need to self-isolate if you experience high temperature and/or a new, continuous cough. You can find more information about what to do on the NHS website and the government website.
