Ability not Disability provides free financial support for businesses
Posted on: 11 March 2022
The new project is giving grant support to local businesses in Devon to employ people with disabilities. The project will pay the employee’s salary for up to three months at National Living Wage.
“Ability not Disability” has been designed in response to businesses’ request for help with recruitment in post-Covid times. It is recognised that there are far more vacancies than job seekers in the county so now is the time to recognise the talent that may not have been recognised previously.
The project is run by Learn Devon, the County Council’s adult education service, and it is one of 13 projects in the county to receive a share of UK Community Renewal Funding.
The Job Guarantee Scheme is the grant available to businesses throughout Devon who want to take on an employee whose training and salary costs will be covered by the scheme for three months at National Living Wage.
Businesses will also be given the support they need to achieve the Disability Confident Award which is often seen by customers as enhancing a business’ reputation. Additional free digital skills employer training on accessibility software will also be available via Cosmic, a social enterprise in Devon specialising in digital training.
Furthermore, the project team will also ensure the employee joining under the scheme receives continued support, with guidance in developing their digital knowledge and a working pattern to suit them as well as their employer.
Businesses in Devon wishing to access this grant funding are encouraged to get in touch by emailing email@example.com.
